Day Master
Yi Wood is the yin polarity of Wood. Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar — the character in your chart that stands for you, and the reference point every other character in the chart is measured against.
| Element | Wood |
|---|---|
| Polarity | Yin |
| Stem | 乙 · Yi |
| Position in the ten stems | 2 of 10 |
Each of the ten stems stands in one fixed relationship to yours. That relationship is the stem’s Ten God, and it is what the reading is built on — the same rule the reports use.
| Stem | Element | Ten God | Leading Role name |
|---|---|---|---|
| 甲 Jia | Yang Wood | Rob Wealth | The Kingmaker |
| 乙 Yi | Yin Wood | Friend | The Independent |
| 丙 Bing | Yang Fire | Hurting Officer | The Maverick |
| 丁 Ding | Yin Fire | Eating God | The Creator |
| 戊 Wu | Yang Earth | Direct Wealth | The Provider |
| 己 Ji | Yin Earth | Indirect Wealth | The Entrepreneur |
| 庚 Geng | Yang Metal | Direct Officer | The Statesman |
| 辛 Xin | Yin Metal | Seven Killings | The Vanguard |
| 壬 Ren | Yang Water | Direct Resource | The Scholar |
| 癸 Gui | Yin Water | Indirect Resource | The Visionary |
Every Earthly Branch hides one to three stems. Those hidden stems are read against your Day Master in exactly the same way, which is how a branch comes to carry a Ten God.

|---|---|---|
| Rat 子 | 癸 Gui | Indirect Resource |

Your Day Master comes from the day you were born, not the year, and it needs the correct date and place to compute. It is not the same as your Chinese zodiac animal, which comes from the year.
