Earthly Branch
Dragon is the Earth branch. In BaZi a branch is not only a zodiac sign — it holds hidden stems, sits at a compass direction and a two-hour window, and stands in fixed relationships to the other eleven.

A BaZi year begins at the solar term Li Chun, around 4 February — not on 1 January and not at Chinese New Year. A birthday in January or early February usually belongs to the previous year’s branch.
