BaZi ("eight characters") is the classical Chinese method of reading character and timing from the exact moment of birth — four pairs of characters for your birth year, month, day and hour. It took its modern form in the Song dynasty and has been refined in written texts for about a thousand years. It is a framework for self-understanding and timing, not a religion — no belief or practice is required to use the reading.

No. BaZi describes patterns and tendencies — which periods support you, which ask more care, where your strengths naturally sit. Nothing in the report is a verdict or a prediction of a specific event, and every challenging pattern is presented with its practical preparation. We deliberately never write omens.

Your chart is a snapshot of your destiny taken at the moment you were born. But Chinese metaphysics has never treated that snapshot as the whole story. The classics read a life through three layers, the Three Powers (三才): Heaven, Earth and Man. Heaven is what you are given — your birth chart and its luck cycles, the timing sequence fixed by your birth data; neither is chosen by you, and this is the layer your report maps with precision. Earth is where you are — your environment and the people around you. Man is what you do — your conduct, choices, effort and learning: the steering. A well-known traditional saying, first recorded in the Qing dynasty, ranks the influences on a life — 一命二運三風水，四積陰德五讀書: "first destiny, second luck, third feng shui, fourth accumulating quiet good deeds, fifth study." In BaZi terms the first two are the Heaven layer — destiny is embodied in your natal chart, and luck means the cycles it moves through — while feng shui, good deeds and study are the layers you steer. Notice the saying deliberately ends on the parts fully within your control. The tradition never assigns percentages to these layers, and neither do we. Knowing the snapshot is what makes the steering deliberate — which is why every caution in this reading comes paired with its preparation.

Two ways. First, precision of input: your reading is computed from your full birth data — year, month, day and hour — not just a sun sign shared with one-twelfth of humanity. Second, method: every pillar, star, date and label in your report is computed deterministically from the classical texts — the same rules a traditional master applies by hand, executed exactly, with nothing hand-waved. The written interpretation then explains what those computed facts mean for you.

Before any report goes out, a separate automated check verifies the finished text against those computed facts.

They are not estimates. There are exactly 518,400 possible BaZi chart configurations, and every rarity the report prints — “carried by about 1 chart in 71” — is re-derived by enumerating all of them through the same engine that reads your chart, before every release. It is arithmetic, not opinion: anyone who knows BaZi can check the count themselves. The same discipline runs the other way — if your chart carries no rare feature, the report says nothing rather than inventing one.

Classical patterns (神煞) that add color to a reading — some mark support, like the Nobleman (helpful people who smooth your path) or the Heavenly Doctor (recovery and care); some mark areas worth preparing for. Each star is anchored to a specific part of your chart, shown on its card. If a star's sign is in your birth chart, it's yours for life — and when the calendar brings its sign around, it's amplified. Stars you don't carry can still visit you in their years and months, active only for that period. Your report shows exactly which stars you carry, when each is amplified, and when others visit.

Every chart has a Day Master — the element that represents you. Depending on how well-supported it is, some of the five elements strengthen your chart and some drain it. The favorable ones are the wind at your back: periods, activities and directions carrying them run smoother for you. This is personal — the same element can be favorable for one person and demanding for another, which is why generic advice fails and a computed chart doesn't.

Not a judgment — a configuration. The engine checks three classical factors: whether your birth season backs your element, whether your element has roots in your chart's four signs, and whether supporting elements hold the majority — with one strict classical rule on top: an element with no root anywhere is never counted strong, however good the season. The overall verdict decides which elements help you: with a well-supported ("strong") chart you thrive by spending your energy — expression, results, responsibility; with a lightly-supported ("weak") chart you thrive by drawing on learning, allies and support. Two winning strategies, neither better.

Three classical checks, applied to every coming year — each a pure table lookup, no scoring, no opinion. First, your money season: the years carrying your personal wealth element (the element your Day Master governs). If wealth is a friendly element for your chart, those are your build years; if you are still building the strength to carry wealth, those same years press on money instead — and your build years become the ones that strengthen you, because classically capacity comes first and money follows. Second, disturbance: any year whose sign strikes the place where your wealth element sits in your birth chart joins the careful list, however pleasant the year otherwise looks — the texts read it as a year money slips away more easily. Third, rivals: for a strong chart, years that bring back your own element in force can mean competitors reaching for the same money — unless the chart carries one of the classical safeguards: an outlet that turns rivals into contributors, or an authority star that guards the wealth. The build and careful lists never overlap; a year that triggers none of the checks simply carries no money tag. The written analysis is required to match the grid exactly.

Each month, year and decade carries its own pair of elements. The tone is simply those elements checked against your personal favorable set — supportive elements only reads Favorable, draining ones only reads Caution; when the pair disagrees it usually reads Mixed — though when the upper element has no footing in the sign beneath it, the sign beneath decides (classically, a stem without a root carries little weight). Separately, the period's sign is checked against the four positions of your birth chart, and any classical interaction found — harmony, clash, harm, punishment, destruction — is listed with the life area it touches. The same two checks run at every timescale, which is why your months, years and decades can never contradict each other.

The hour sets one of your four pillars, so the closer the better — within the same two-hour window is fully accurate, since classical hours span two clock hours. If you truly don't know it, the other three pillars (year, month, day) still carry most of the reading; treat hour-specific details with lighter weight. If you later find your exact time, a fresh report will sharpen those sections.

Your reading is prepared automatically after payment — usually ready within the hour, often within minutes, and always within 48 hours. The finished report is emailed to you as your permanent copy, and your personal link shows it online for 90 days.
