Day Master
Gui Water is the yin polarity of Water. Your Day Master is the Heavenly Stem of your day pillar — the character in your chart that stands for you, and the reference point every other character in the chart is measured against.
| Element | Water |
|---|---|
| Polarity | Yin |
| Stem | 癸 · Gui |
| Position in the ten stems | 10 of 10 |
Each of the ten stems stands in one fixed relationship to yours. That relationship is the stem’s Ten God, and it is what the reading is built on — the same rule the reports use.
| Stem | Element | Ten God | Leading Role name |
|---|---|---|---|
| 甲 Jia | Yang Wood | Hurting Officer | The Maverick |
| 乙 Yi | Yin Wood | Eating God | The Creator |
| 丙 Bing | Yang Fire | Direct Wealth | The Provider |
| 丁 Ding | Yin Fire | Indirect Wealth | The Entrepreneur |
| 戊 Wu | Yang Earth | Direct Officer | The Statesman |
| 己 Ji | Yin Earth | Seven Killings | The Vanguard |
| 庚 Geng | Yang Metal | Direct Resource | The Scholar |
| 辛 Xin | Yin Metal | Indirect Resource | The Visionary |
| 壬 Ren | Yang Water | Rob Wealth | The Kingmaker |
| 癸 Gui | Yin Water | Friend | The Independent |
Every Earthly Branch hides one to three stems. Those hidden stems are read against your Day Master in exactly the same way, which is how a branch comes to carry a Ten God.

Your Day Master comes from the day you were born, not the year, and it needs the correct date and place to compute. It is not the same as your Chinese zodiac animal, which comes from the year.
