A BaZi year does not start on 1 January, and it does not start at Chinese New Year either. It starts at the solar term Li Chun, which falls around 4 February. If you were born in January or the first days of February 2016, your year pillar is almost certainly Yi Wei, the 2016 − 1 pillar, not this one. The exact moment moves by a few hours each year, so a birthday on 3, 4 or 5 February has to be computed rather than assumed.
Your birth year gives you one of the four pillars, and it is not the one that stands for you. That is the day pillar, whose stem is your Day Master. Two people born in 2016 share this year pillar and can otherwise have almost nothing in common. The month pillar needs your birth date, and the hour pillar needs your birth time.
